The new DVDA Board of Directors has hit the ground running

On November 1, 2007, the new DVDa oard and Officers convened its first monthly Directors' meeting, during which I outlined an aggressive agends of new programs and revitalization that I have long envisioned. Some highlghts of these programs include:

1 - An enlarged program of Presentations and Seminars. Our goal is a program of at least four major seminars per year, approximately once per calendar quarter. The locations will vary throughout the year, since the DVDA is clearly a worldwide phenomenon. The DVDA will outreach to the entire world during 2008, and will be hosting additional seminars throughout the world in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008.

2 - DVDA is a sponsor of Storage Visions Conference 2008 , held just before CES, 2008.

3 - DVDA President Bruce Nazarian will be presenting the 2-day DVD Studio Pro 4 Power Tools intensive during Macworld Expo 2008 in San Francisco, also during January 2008.

4 - Our DVDA Day of Excellence is currently scheduled to take place in Las Vegas during the weekend prior to NAB in April, 2008.

5- the creation of The DVDA Foundation, the new non-profit philanthropic arm of the DVDA.
The DVDA Foundation is specifically being created to allow the DVDA to do tax-deductible "good works", and we have identified several that we plan to begin with, in early 2008.

6- A greater outreach in education about DVD and related technologies. The DVDA will update the list of DVD-related training programs at high schools, colleges, universities, and post-secondary training centers, with an eye towards creating an online direcytory of such facilities.

7- In the second phase of our training iniative, DVDA will define and create a "benchmark for excellence" as regards DVD Production and Authoring.

The DVDA's new Certified Digital Producer program will allow individuals to undertake, online, a standardized course training on of DVD concepts, and to be tested to achieve a "first level" of certification about DVD production. Further levels of certification will deal with Authoring on specific tools, Menu design and Mastering, as well as programming for HDi and BD-J.

We've also undertaken some overdue governance issues:

The DVDA has a new Secretary, Sandi Taylor, and has elected our newest Director, Chris Brown. Chris has a long history with DVD, having been the creator behind Interactual Technologies, inventors of PC Friendly and the Interactual Player. DVD entusiasts will remember that both products extended the DVD experience by allowing online linkage via the Web. Today, Chris is CEO of Metabeam, his newest company.

We shall continue to move our agenda forward during the coming months, and hope you will consider joining us. Our Member Benefits are continually being enhanced, and you can easily review them by clicking Membership Benefits from the Join DVDA Menu at top.

Special Incentive:

Join DVDA as a new C orporate Member during November and receive a FREE copy of

Everything You Ever Wanted to Ask about DVD , written by our own Chairman, Jim Taylor

Stay tuned for more developments...
Respectfully, Bruce Nazarian, "the DVD Guy", DVDA President
